Breast Plastic Surgery

updated

Breast surgery is an umbrella term for several types of cosmetic surgery procedures, including breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, and breast implant revision.

Fit into the Clothes You Want Following Surgery

Many patients who are considering breast surgery are unhappy with the fit of their clothes and bras prior to treatment. For those women who are unhappy with the size and shape of their breasts, shopping for clothes can be a stressful and discouraging experience. Finding flattering bras, bathing suits, and tops can be nearly impossible, and some women just want to avoid shopping altogether as a result.

Today, there are a variety of breast surgery options that can improve the appearance of breasts. Small, asymmetric, and misshapen breasts can be treated with the insertion of breast implants. Sagging breasts can benefit from a breast lift. Disproportionately heavy breasts can be treated with breast reduction. Whatever your concerns, there is a breast surgery option available to make your breasts more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing. Read the breast surgery descriptions below and click on the accompanying links for more information about each procedure.

Types of Breast Surgery

There are several types of breast surgery, each of which can be customized to address the precise needs and goals of the individual patient. The most commonly performed types of breast surgery include:

Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery involves the use of breast implants to augment the size and shape of the breasts.

Reduction

Breast reduction surgery involves the removal of skin and breast tissue to reduce the size of overly large breasts. In some cases, liposuction is performed at the same time as breast reduction.

Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction surgery uses an implant or muscle/tissue transfer to reconstruct the breast following a mastectomy (removal of the breast in order to treat breast cancer).

Implant Revision

Breast implant revision surgery involves the removal and/or replacement of breast implants.

Finding the Right Doctor

If you are considering breast surgery, it is very important that you choose a qualified and highly experienced breast surgeon. Breast surgery, especially surgery requiring skin removal, has inherent risks. A surgeon who has performed multiple breast surgeries on different types of patients will have a better idea of what to expect during breast surgery and will be better able to handle an emergency, should one arise.

Cost

The cost of breast surgery varies according to the type of procedure and the area of the country in which it is performed. For further information about breast surgery prices, visit these pages:
